Pelham pipe Denmark Place

The Pelham Pipe was modified in 2017 but further changes are now needed. We’re carrying out repair work on the pipe, at a cost of around £1.3 million, and this was finished at the end of April 2023.

What are we doing?

We’re improving the surface water outfall pipe at Pelham Beach to prevent it being blocked by shingle. Currently, we clear the shingle with a digger. We won’t need to do this after our improvement work.

What is the pipe for?

This pipe takes rainwater from the roads and surfaces, via the drain system, out to sea to prevent flooding.

This pipe is not connected to the sewage network. It is not a combined sewer outfall (CSO.) It is for rainwater only.

What happens next?

We will then need to assess if any further work is needed.
