Chichester Growth

In 2018, Southern Water began constructing a 10km sewer pipeline and three new pumping stations to provide essential wastewater services to approximately 3,800 new homes in developments around Chichester.

What we’ve done so far

Our first task was to upgrade the Tangmere Wastewater Treatment Works, so we could treat and process wastewater from the new properties.

We’re constructing pumping stations that will serve the developments near Tangmere and Westhampnett and have completed approximately 70% of sewer pipeline.

Looking forward to 2020–21

Like so many other businesses throughout the UK, COVID-19 has presented many unexpected challenges for Southern Water. Our over-riding focus has been maintaining our essential services, while providing practicable assistance to our customers and supply chain.

To ensure we can fully support our communities we’ve had to take some difficult decisions, including suspending non-essential visits and pausing or slowing some planned work for the remainder of 2020.

To that end, construction of parts of the Chichester Growth pipeline has been postponed until spring 2021, with work on site suspended from September 2020.

Revised completion of the scheme is now anticipated to be by autumn 2021.

We would like to thank you for your understanding and ongoing cooperation during these difficult times.

From September 2020 onward, we’ll demobilise some of our work sites and our team will return to them in April 2021.

We’ll keep you updated about our plans and thank you for your support.
