Southern Water and Clancy will be working together to improve the water supply across much of Deal.

 

When and where are we working?

We’ll be starting work on Monday 11th July 2022 and the whole programme is expected to take 24 months, but we’ll only be in each street for a few weeks on average.

 

Why is this work needed?

We’re replacing pipes that are reaching the end of their working life to help make sure there is a continued supply of high-quality water for the local community.

Questions you may have

Will my water go off?

We may need to interrupt your water supply for a short time – for example to connect your property to the new water main. If we do, we’ll give you at least 48 hours notice.

Do you need extra support?

Do you live in Albert Road or visit it?

In addition to our investment to upgrade Deal’s water mains, we’re also carrying out another project in Deal over the summer of 2022 to reduce flooding and pollution incidents in the area. The work will introduce sustainable solutions to slow the flow of rainwater runoff.

As part of the project, we’ll be upgrading the surface water sewer between Albert Road and Matthews Close Dyke. We expect this will take us approximately four weeks to complete and may require a lane closure or temporary traffic lights to make sure everyone’s is safe around the site.

What about the effect on businesses in the Summer?

We understand there are lots of visitors to Deal in the Summer and it would be disruptive to have too many roads closed at that time of year. So, we are working closely with Kent Highways to make sure we minimise the disturbance to the town.

When you will be starting work in my road?

We’re initially working in Cannon Street, Golf Road, Western Road and Northwall Road through the summer months, to minimise the impact on the local Primary School. We’re currently working with Kent County Council Highways to plan the next phase of the work from September through to December, and we will write to tell you two weeks before we start any work in your street.

Why are you only doing some of the streets in Deal?

We are starting work in the older parts of the town where the pipe work is oldest. 

Is my water safe to drink if it comes through lead pipes?

If you're concerned, we can checked your drinking water for lead. Please call us on 0330 303 0368 to arrange a visit to your property and we'll take a water sample for analysis, free of charge. Find out more on lead pipes.

Will you need to close my road?

We are working closely with Kent County Council Highways to plan the work to ensure the safety of the public and our workforce, as well as minimising local traffic disruption. Each street will be assessed individually, taking into account a number of factors including: road junctions, road width, and required location of the new pipes.

If my road is closed will I still be able to park on it?

If we do need to close your road, some on-street parking may be affected, but we’ll be doing all we can to minimise this. We’ll be maintaining vehicle access for residents, and we’ll also be working hard to make sure your rubbish is still collected, supermarket deliveries and other online shops can reach your door.

I live near a bus stop – will it be closed?

You will need to check with your bus company to find out if they have relocated the stop.
