Standpipe hire
There may be times when you need a supply of water outside our normal service. In this instance, a standpipe can be hired from Water Services.
Ordering a standpipe
Water Services processes all applications for hired standpipes for Southern Water customers. If you would like to hire a standpipe or enquire about prices, please contact Water Services on 02392 695 515 (7:30am – 4:30pm weekdays) or email [email protected].
Only standpipes provided by Water Services can be used on our network. Using a standpipe without a licence is a criminal offence contrary to section 174(3) of the Water Industry Act 1991.
Water can only be drawn from a Southern Water washout hydrant.
Standpipes should never be used on a fire hydrant.
Delivery
Once your request has been processed, Water Services can deliver anywhere in our region within one working day.
Alternatively, you can collect from your nearest available distribution point (contact Water Services for your nearest location).
Please note
A standpipe should be attached to a washout hydrant (WO). These can be found at various points along our network. Please contact Water Services if you have any problems locating a washout hydrant.

- Construction
- Drain cleaning
- Organised events
