Charities and community hubs to benefit as Community Grant Scheme launches

Community Grant

Southern Water has launched a new Community Grant Scheme to support those who need it most during these challenging times.

The new cash pot for groups and charities is being divided in two.

Firstly, the  Community Energy Grant will support community hubs, refuges, and food banks offering

The grant, which is opening in partnership with Southern Water’s delivery partner Costain, will help towards energy costs and to relieve pressures that community spaces face to stay open during the winter months. To find out more and apply, please visit Community Energy Grant (southernwater.co.uk)

The second grant scheme focuses on improving outcomes for young people and is aimed at charities, where successful bidders will become regional charity partners for 18 months and will benefit from a grant of £10,000.

The scheme, which also aims to celebrate and champion diversity and inclusion for young people, will offer a total of £50,000 to be shared out between five successful bidders chosen from each of Southern Water’s regional areas (Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight). To find out more and apply, please visit Community Grants – Level 1 (southernwater.co.uk)

Last year the community grant scheme benefitted 80 projects across the south, including the 2nd Durrington Sea Scouts, who received grant of £5,000 that enabled them to get new kayaks.

Southern Water’s Community Partnerships and Programme Manager, Alex Willumsen said:

“We continue to aim to build resilience and support for those facing challenges in our community. Though our grants scheme, which aims to support both customers experiencing hardship and our communities, we provide funding support to enable community spaces to continue to operate over winter months and support the work of those supporting young people in our communities to thrive.”

The application process for the Energy Grant Scheme is open until midnight on October 23, a panel will then make a decision on rewarding grants in November. For the improving Outcomes Grant, applications are open until November 6 with a panel making a decision in December.

Further grants under the Community Grant Scheme will be launched in the coming months, to find out more, click here or email [email protected].
