Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan

Welcome to our Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan (DWMP). It’s our plan for investment in drainage and wastewater services to ensure our networks of sewers, pumps and wastewater treatment works meet the needs of our customers and protect the environment into the future.

Our DWMP covers the whole of our operating region across Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight in the South-East of England. It pulls together the planning for our services in the 11 river basin catchments and for each of our 381 wastewater systems that serve our 4.7 million customers. The map below shows the 11 river basin catchments across our operating region.

This website is our DWMP. The first of the 12 sections below is the home for our regional DWMP which explains our approach and outlines our plans. The other 11 sections below explain our plan for our drainage and wastewater services in each of the river basin catchments.

The Guide to DWMP site page explains the structure and content of our DWMP.

What are DWMPs?

DWMPs are long-term plans – spanning 25 years or more – that set out the investments needed to make wastewater and drainage systems fit for today and the future. It’s about planning for future climates and population, whilst reducing storm overflows, flooding and pollution for the benefit of customers, communities and businesses, and to protect and improve the water environment. You can find out more on the Strategic Context page.

DWMPs – the story so far

We are one of 10 water companies across England and Wales that provide wastewater services to homes and businesses (known as sewerage undertakers). We have all been developing our first DWMP in line with national guidance provided by Government, our regulators (Ofwat and the Environment Agency) and others. These Plans build upon previous long-term planning by water companies, such as Drainage Area Plans and Drainage Strategies.

You can find out more about our plans for drainage and wastewater management for the region, and in each of the 11 river basin catchments below. Other useful information is provided through the links on the right of this page.
