Volunteering

Our colleagues enjoy taking part in our community volunteering programme. They have paid leave to support their local community by giving their time, skills and resources, helping our communities and the environment. Our colleagues work together to support local wildlife projects, schools, beach cleans, mentoring young people and fundraising.

Brooklands park is a special place for my family. It was lovely to have been able to add my own touch to it and it was really humbling to know we were helping create something for our children and future generations.

The Volunteering Programme is an excellent way to give something back to the local community. Not only were the members of the charity informative and passionate about their roles, but we also had great insight into how the work we were putting in was going to benefit the local community.

Here are some of the volunteering activities from the past year:
  • Supporting young people across our region - we launched an 18 month partnership with five charity partners, as well as taking part in tree planting at Brooklands park and lake in Lancing and Cliff gardens Seaford community partnership.
  • Wetlands restoration – working in partnership with Kent Wildlife Trust and South East Rivers.
  • Removing invasive species habitat maintenance – taking part at Pagham harbour with the RSPB.
  • Helping with building renovation - working for Turning Tides , a charity to help fight homelessness.
  • Collecting litter – bringing an army of volunteers to five beaches on the Isle of Sheppey.
  • Packing food donations - as part of our Tonnes of Tins campaign for foodbanks across our regions.

I’m really proud to have the opportunity to manage this programme. We have lots of enthusiastic employees who love to volunteer and give back to our communities.
