Innovation is key to a greener future. It will help us preserve natural capital, improve efficiency and boost sustainability. Innovation is also opening up new opportunities in areas such as bioresources, and waste and energy generation, as well as enabling us to make better use of new and existing resources. Our latest wastewater projects are great examples of how we’re using innovative approaches, and these will help to protect the environment.   

Last week the world’s eyes were focused on COP27 in Egypt, where more than 120 world leaders were meeting to discuss climate change.

Here in the South we’re feeling the impact of dramatic changes in climate. In many areas, we’ve experienced the driest summer for 50-years, followed by unprecedented rainfall and stormy weather this autumn

This exciting technology creates a virtual environment, enabling teams to be trained in conditions that mimic the real-life pressure of a live incident.

To thank the local community for helping when we left customers and businesses without water on the Isle of Sheppey in July, we opened a Community Grant fund to support many of the hardworking charities and volunteer groups in Sheppey. 

We are always looking at ways to help the drive to reach net zero. In an innovative project, our Bluewave team are working with local councils and specialist suppliers to use the heat generated in the sewer network, as a low carbon heating source in the community.

But the fat, oil and grease that makes them so tempting can also harm homes and the environment if it enters our sewers.
