After chairing a conference on water resources and the future of protecting it, Head of Water Efficiency Ben Earl has said collaboration is absolutely essential in protecting our most precious commodity in the years to come.
The digital conference, Water Security in a Changing Environment, was organised by Water and Wastewater Treatment on June 10 and 11 and its coverage can be read here.
Following the conference, and a warning from the National Audit Office that action needs to be taken now to protect water in the future, Ben said: “I think there’s still the mind set to get fixated and caught in the headlights of more immediate problems, but we all really need to be looking at the bigger picture and start gearing up now.
“The conference was brilliant in bringing people together. I had the pleasure of being able to co-ordinate discussions at a number of interesting panel sessions as well as pulling together the threads of delivering a resilient future.
The digital conference featured presentations from the National Water Resources Framework and the Regulators’ Alliance for Progressing Infrastructure Development (RAPID), which includes Ofwat, the Environment Agency and the Drinking Water Inspectorate.
Earlier this year, Southern Water published its 50-year water resources plan on how we will work with others to protect water over the coming years.
