Drainage and Wastewater Management Plans
Welcome to our first draft Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan. Our Plan is for drainage and wastewater management across the 11 river basin catchments in our region, and our 381 wastewater systems that serve our 4.7 million customers. Our DWMP consists of these webpages – see our website guide below– and a regional Plan that summaries our approach.
The regional DWMP is supported by five Investment Plans that identify the investment needs for the future.
We really want to know what you think about our draft DWMP. You can let us know by responding during our 12 week consultation which begins on Monday 13 June 2022 and runs until midnight on Monday 05 September 2022.

Review: Our DRAFT Regional DWMP
What are DWMPs?
DWMPs are long-term plans – spanning 25 years or more – that set out the investments needed to make wastewater and drainage systems fit for today and the future. It’s about planning for future climates and population, whilst reducing storm overflows, flooding and pollution for the benefit of customers, communities and businesses, and to protect and improve the water environment. DWMPs – the story so far
We are one of 10 water companies across England and Wales that have committed to produce a DWMP for the first time by the end of March 2023. These Plans build upon previous long-term planning by water companies, such as Drainage Area Plans and Drainage Strategies.
Defra, Ofwat, the Environment Agency and others have developed a national DWMP framework to guide the development of DWMP.
Water companies are asked to produce one regional DWMP for their operating area based on the plans for each River Basin Catchment and the drainage and wastewater systems within these. The map below shows the 11 river basin catchments across our operating region.
You can find out more about our plans for drainage and wastewater management for the region, and in each of the 11 river basin catchments below:
